The word Satguru literally translates to the “True-Teacher”. Truth is the beginning and everlasting reality, truth is God. For Namdhari Sikhs all around the world, Sri Satguru Jagjit Singh Ji is that enlightened Satguru who shows them the right ways and methods to gain Truth in their lives.

About our Gurdwara

Our Gurdwara is built to represented Namdhari’s ever-lasting debt to the great Shaheed of Malerkotla, Punjab.

On 17th Jan 1872, the British government in India ordered several Namdhari Sikhs to be arrested and forty-nine Namdhari Sikhs to be executed by blowing them up using cannons. A further sixteen were hanged. All this because Namdhari’s stood up for the right to practice their faith and follow the teachings of Sri Satguru Ram Singh Ji.

In Malerkotla today stands a memorial Khanda with 66 holes, each representing a Namdhari Sikh who gave their life for there believes. In Leicester, following the same theme, the main prayer hall has similar holes in the ceiling, representing the shining light of the Malerkotla Shaheed. Read more about the making of our Gurdwara...
